North Cliff is a private, family-owned, Wisconsin based holding company that has active 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation ownership working at all levels in the organization.
We build our organizations on the principles that have worked for generations. We value our people and offer transparency and opportunity through a philosophy that is based on the founder’s belief in people. This allows each company the ability to form its own style around this philosophy. Our Purpose
To invest in diverse, high-quality companies in the Upper Midwest so we can strengthen local communities and create opportunities for our families, our associates, and the communities we invest in. We will do so by earning the right to be our customer’s best choice for the products and services we provide, and our associate’s best choice to pursue their careers. We invest for the long term, rather than buy, build, and flip. We think generationally with all of our investments.
Our Investment Criteria
- Core leadership located in Midwest
- Majority ownership, and will consider partnership/JV with North Cliff as majority owner
- Retention of management/leadership – not essential but highly desired
- EBITDA range $5M-$20M
- Stable preferred over turnaround companies
- Long-term sustainable
- Manufacturing preferred over service
- Business to Business
- Will benefit significantly from automation
- Will consider opportunities in real estate
Our History
The Chier Family begins mining industrial silica in the early 1900s in Berlin, WI
In 1949, the C.A. Chier Sand Company was founded – Serving the metal casting industry (foundries)
In 1979, the company was renamed Badger Mining Corporation and entered into the oil & gas industry
In 2009, North Cliff Corporation was formed in effort to diversify
From 2015-2024, Acquisitions/Founding of Nicolet Plastics, North Cliff Investments, LogicHaul Logistics, North Cliff Properties, and Athabasca Minerals
